Update: Change in the Winds...

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since I've posted here at The Gluten-Free Hippie, and I'm sad about that. My life has been an intense ride since the holidays, with a lot of dietary changes and adjustments (including months of eating gluten - booo!) Because of this, you'll see a lot of new subject matter in the coming months, including omnivorous recipes, more product reviews, news, and fun giveaways. :) But don't worry, this blog will always and forever be 100% gluten free!

Wait, what? Omnivorous posts, you say? Yep! I've come to find that my body has a hard time not only processing gluten, but also most beans, lactose/casein, and most soy products (unless they're fermented, like tempeh, miso, etc.) I have, however, always digested animal protein just fine. So, I will occasionally post recipes with meat, but keep mostly vegan. Soon I will have a smaller tab below my banner with a link to JUST my vegan recipes, so you can skip right to them if you're vegan. I would hate to lose my vegan readers/recipe lovers just because I need to change my diet!

Despite all of the dietary fluctuation, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in, and feeling great about life! Now I just need to cleanse my internal system and stop giving in to useless indulgences. :)

I hope to see and hear more of you all in the future! I look forward to sharing all my fun and tasty recipes with everyone!

Blessings,
Lyra

Hey, glad to see you're coming back! I was a vegetarian for nearly a decade, and then my body changed, and now I eat meat occasionally. It was just time, I suppose. I totally get needing to listen to your system and do what it needs. Looking forward to your new posts, regardless of ingredient!

Thanks, Gaile! Yeah, I tried so hard to be vegan for four years, but I just can't do it anymore. I've not yet found something vegan to satiate my protein cravings, not matter how much plant-based protein I ingest. :\

You'll see some really fun foods coming out of the blog again soon! :D

I ate low-fat vegetarian for years, and got heavier and heavier with each passing year. It didn't make sense. I also had other health problems, including chronic fatigue and depression. Since adding fat and animal protein (only from the best sources) to my diet, I've felt great, and have started to take off the weight. It was a big change for me, but it was the right thing to do for my health.

Thank you! :)

LavenderFae, I'm so glad to hear you're reclaiming your health! For me, it's really all about as many whole, unprocessed foods (animal or no) as I can get into my diet. I definitely consider factory farms to be over-processing their animals, so I'm all good and happy with the local. :)

I read Nina Plank's 'Real Food' last year & her own journey from vegan or vegetarian & getting sicker & sicker, watching her farmer parents enjoy good health - & I'm with you - our la Leche League motto was 'a wide variety of food in close to its' natural state!'
Farmer's Market, CSAs & local meat are so great!
A few weeks ago at our local GIG, we had a call in (computer!) with a GF baker in Bend, & he mentioned more & more gluten contamination is showing up in naturally "gluten free" items - esp flours (sorghum, & even beans) - & prob came from growing close to wheat (etc) farms &/or shipping in the same containers -
I've begun soaking whole beans in grapefruit seed extract for ~ 20 minutes, & rinsing before cooking.
